The systems must be protected against attacks from the Internet and the company network. Industrial network security appliances that function reliably in the often harsh production environments are suitable for this purpose. It is often necessary to protect several subnets and regulate the data flow between them. It is therefore advantageous to be able to react flexibly to possible changes by using a modular hardware concept. In the event of a fault or power failure, the BYPASS functionality can be used to control which networks are to be connected to each other so that network traffic is not interrupted.
The 2U Network Security Appliance 1ST-F58224R with Intel® Xeon® W CPU or Intel® Core™ i3/i5/i7 processor and up to 4 LAN expansion modules for max. 32 LAN ports is a robust device that can also be used in production facilities under non-air-conditioned conditions thanks to its relatively wide temperature range. It can be flexibly customised for the respective network. Depending on the CPU used, 2 cores / 4 threads, 4 cores / 8 threads, 6 cores / 12 threads, 8 cores / 16 threads or 10 cores / 20 threads are available.
Various LAN modules are available for use, ranging from 4x RJ45 Gb Ethernet ports with the LAN module35N4 or 4x SFP Gb Ethernet ports with the LAN module 35F4 based on the Intel® Ethernet Controller I350-AM4 via 8x RJ45 Gb Ethernet ports with the LAN module 35N8 or 8x 1Gb SFP ports with the LAN module 35F8 via 2x 10 Gb SFP ports with the LAN module
59W2, 4x 10 Gb SFP ports with the LAN module 71W4 through to a 2x 40 Gb QSFP+ LAN module 71Q2 with Intel® XL710 Ethernet Controller.
For customers who do not want to do without BYPASS functionality even with fibre optic connections, we offer SFP ports with one or two optical BYPASS channels with the 58B2 and 71B4 modules for Gigabit and 10 Gb speeds respectively.
The BYPASS functionality ensures that important communication paths in the network are maintained in the event of a hardware error or power-off. This is particularly useful for so-called in-line servers such as intrusion detection and intrusion prevention systems. In order to achieve the maximum LAN port number of 32 ports, we offer 2 modules with 8 Gigabit ports each - 35N8 with 8x RJ45 Gb Ethernet and 35F8 with 8x SFP Gb Ethernet ports based on the proven Intel® Ethernet Controller i350.
This modularity of the network connections means that your investment in the 2U Rackmount Network Appliance is future-proof: The number of network ports as well as the type of connection (cable, fibre optic, 1Gb, 10Gb, 40Gb) can be adapted at any time for future expansions of your network. You can also adapt the performance to your needs by selecting the appropriate CPU.
The hardware firewall we offer is compatible with Linux and FreeBSD as well as Windows. This means you can use various firewall software or IDS/IPS software on the devices to protect your network. Of course, we take your wishes into account when it comes to the memory configuration of the devices.
To fully utilise the operating temperature range of -10°C to +50°C in the minus temperature range, components specified for an extended temperature range (DRAMs, mSATA SSDs and HDDs or SSDs) can also be used as an option.
As the devices normally work in 24/7 operation, we have provided a redundant 550W power supply unit in the basic configuration.
If you are working with a redundant system setup with 2 devices each, we can also install non-redundant power supply units as an option.
